Testing and Inspecting
At some point all electrical installations deteriorate with age and regular use. They should therefore be inspected and tested at regular intervals to
check whether they are in a satisfactory condition for safe continued use. An Electrical Condition Report (ECR) gives an accurate and detailed description of if an electrical installation is safe by measuring multiple readings including resistance, current, and voltage to accurately show that an installation is functioning under correct parameters.
An ECR will not only give you the peace of mind that your electrics are in working order, it will also identify any potential electric shock risks, flag any fire hazards, determine if any of your circuits are overloaded and identify any defective electrical work.
Electrical installation condition reports should only be carried out only by electrically competent professionals, who will check the condition of the electrics against the ETA standard for the safety of electrical installations. The person carrying out the report will detail any observed damage, deterioration, defects, dangerous conditions and any non-compliance throughout the property and will record it accurately on the certificate.
It is advised that an ECR is carried out at minimum of every 5 years for any premise to ensure all reasonable steps are taken to provide a safe environment.
